Local Partner Coach – Wind Development
OwnEnergy is seeking a commercially-savvy, driven, natural leader with wind development and several years of land acquisition/control experience. Mentoring and communication skills along with being motivated by the prospect of working with a leading team in a growing venture capital-backed renewable energy company are key to success in this position. In this role, the Local Partner Coach will be responsible for mentoring and training the company’s local partners for multiple wind projects across the United States. The Local Partner Coach will be based in our headquarters located in Brooklyn, NY or a major city in the central United States as travel will be required to project sites. In the event the position is based outside of New York, regular travel to headquarters will be required. The position requires approximately 50% travel.
This individual will serve as the primary contact for OwnEnergy’s current and future community-based development partners (“Local Partners”) with regard to land management functions and other local development tasks. The Local Partner Coach will work closely with the partners and developers on the team in the various aspects of project development, such as the acquisition of land and local permitting. This position will also involve establishing and fostering new relationships with Local Partners and assessing local regulatory conditions and procedures.
The Local Partner Coach should have experience in confirming land ownership and availability for lease/purchase; negotiating agreements with landowners for wind energy leases; and ensuring compliance with local wind ordinances. The Local Partner Coach is expected to rely upon experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals while leading others via a mentoring relationship. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is required. This position will report to the Chief Development Officer.
Sample Tasks:
- Develop and keep current curriculum needed for Local Partner training
- Guide Local Partners’ efforts to perform project related land management functions including obtaining land rights and recording lease memorandums
- Guide Local Partners’ efforts to obtain all necessary local permits for construction and operation of the project
- Guide Local Partners’ efforts to correct title deficiencies necessary for project commercialization
- Assess all local regulatory processes and recommend compliance strategy
- Serve as a project representative to interested stakeholders in the Community
- Perform land related due diligence on project acquisition
Requirements:
- Ability to live and work in the New York City area or a city located in the central United States with a major airport
- 5+ years of land management experience, including obtaining land rights, recording leases, reviewing chain of title and curing title defects required, preferably wind energy related
- Comfortable working with budgets, basic finance and accounting concepts and contract negotiation
- Proven track record of leading and managing projects to completion
- Commercially savvy, hard-charging with entrepreneurial spirit
- Excellent oral, written, analytical and presentations skills
- Ability to operate at an extremely detailed level in a high intensity environment
