On June 3rd wind energy leaders and advocates will gather at James Madison University for the Virginia Wind Forum, a one-day information-packed event for learning and discussions regarding progress and challenges to a robust land-based and offshore wind future in the state. OwnEnergy’s Development Manager for the Mid-Atlantic region, Scott Kuhlke, will speaking on the Distributed Wind / Community Wind Applications panel. He will present a case study of mid-sized wind energy projects and their benefit to the community.
The event is organized by the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA), will include national and regional mid-size wind market updates, but the program will focus on Virginia wind energy markets, policies, activities, applications and challenges.
Following the morning presentation of the wind–natural gas nexus by General Electric, representatives of Virginia’s public and private sectors will address the current status of mid-size wind development and policy. Lunchtime will be dedicated to small group sessions led by experts on 18 wind topics of interest.
The afternoon will include panels on distributed and mid-size wind applications, offshore mid-size wind turbines, and land-based wind development. The final panel will be a moderated Q&A session with the Virginia utilities, wind developers, and the advocate network. The forum will conclude with remarks from Virginia’s Secretary of Commerce and Trade, Maurice Jones, immediately followed by a reception.
